Bone Density Testing
Bone density testing uses X-rays to measure how many grams of calcium and other bone minerals are packed into a segment of bone. This is a great way for Long Island Heart Associates to determine if a patient has osteoporosis or osteopenia. This test is conveniently located in our Mineola office and is performed by our trained and certified tech.
What to expect during a bone density test
After changing into a medical gown, you will be asked to lie on the exam table. Your tech will ask you a series of questions and make sure nothing interferes with the test. The machine scans over your body for 15-20 seconds. The computer will calculate your results and you will be directed to change back into your original clothes.
- There is not preparation for the bone density testing
- Results will be available immediately after your test has been performed.
