Seasonal Favorites for a Healthier You

Fall is here and it is one of the best times to get in on the delicious, naturally grown goodness that nature has to offer. Have you ever heard of the saying, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away?” Well, there is truth to that saying and the answer lies within this article!

Make your heart happy by feeding your body the right food for the right purpose. Many of us may find ourselves outside during this time of year, taking in the cool weather and the beauty of the changing season but make sure to stick with the routine of eating fresh, healthy meals. On the go, we typically find ourselves visiting the closest fast food restaurant or going out to eat more frequently.

Take a trip to the local farm market or orchard for the day and spend time walking around outside, picking heart-healthy foods that are in season this month! In the northeast United States, fruits and berries that are in season this month include but are not limited to:

  • apples
  • pears
  • cranberries
  • grapes

Looking to get your hands on fresh vegetables to serve up with a healthy meal most likely in stock at your local farm market? Broccoli, arugula, parsley and lettuce are in season as well and are just a few of the greens that support cardiovascular health.

Implementing fresh, healthy foods into your daily diet well before the holiday season will prove beneficial both now, and in the long run. For information about your heart health, contact a physician today!
