Dr Richard Smith

Richard H. Smith, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Richard Smith has Board Certification in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Nuclear Cardiology and Comprehensive Adult Echocardiography, including Transesophageal Imaging. Dr. Smith is a graduate of the Sackler School of Medicine. He completed his residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and his Cardiology fellowship at Winthrop University Hospital. Dr. Smith is skilled in non-invasive cardiology with an emphasis on risk factor modification, atrial fibrillation, and left ventricular diastolic function.

Dr. Richard Smith served on staff at Winthrop University Hospital for eight years, where he directed the Echocardiography Program and Cardiology Clinics. While at Winthrop University Hospital, Dr. Smith was elected Outstanding Attending Physician of the Year in Cardiology and Internal Medicine. In addition, Dr. Smith has been an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. His teachings have inspired seasoned cardiologists as well as those who are newly entering the medical field.

Dr. Richard Smith’s clinical research involving Atrial Fibrillation was previously published in the New England Journal of Medicine. In addition to multiple scientific publications, he has also published poetry and short stories, and has enjoyed performing his works publicly. Dr. Smith states, “Medicine is both an art and a science, and a good clinician should incorporate an understanding of this philosophy into the care of his or her patients.”
