Insomnia & Snoring May Correlate to Heart Disease

A miserable nights’ sleep affects us in many ways. It is not only the tired, lethargic feeling that will result from a poor rest period. The entire body can suffer. Sleep disorder is also known as sleep apnea which can cause serious health issues. Some symptoms a person may experience while sleeping include:

  • Snoring
  • Heartburn
  • Excessive sweating
  • Chest pain
  • Headaches upon waking
  • Frequent urination
  • Sour taste
  • Difficult with concentration and/or memory

Sleep Wellness Centers of New YorkIn addition, a major effect could be weight gain due to the lack of rest your body needs. Many people are not aware that we burn calories while we sleep and our body needs rest time in order to recover form the next day. Sleep-Disordered Breathing (SDB) specifically impacts the cardiovascular system in several ways. SDB has been linked to hypertension, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, transient ischemic attack, and stroke (Somers VK et al, 2003). Our physicians and technologists have been working diligently to provide our patients with the solutions and care that will help prevent severe damage.

The Sleep and Wellness Centers of New York was opened by Long Island Heart Associates to address our patients’ need for comprehensive preventative care.
